Ready to try your Chinese keyboard?

Practice HSK 1 vocabularyYou can type Traditional Chinese with Pinyin. Pinyin supplies the Mandarin pronunciation; your keyboard’s output or character-set setting determines whether you get Simplified or Traditional characters.
The exact option differs by device. Look for Traditional Chinese, Traditional output, or a Pinyin keyboard under a Traditional Chinese language.
Windows offers more than one path, and the behavior differs between Microsoft Pinyin and Taiwan language options. Follow the tested steps in How to Type Traditional Chinese with Pinyin on Windows 11.
After setup, type a familiar phrase such as zhongwen and confirm that the candidate list includes 中文 in the expected character set. Also check punctuation and regional vocabulary settings.
Open System Settings → Keyboard → Text Input → Edit, then add a Chinese input source. Choose a Pinyin input source that supports Traditional output, or change the character-set preference in the input source settings.

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard. Under Chinese, select a Traditional Pinyin option if available for your iOS version and region.

Gboard and manufacturer keyboards organize Chinese languages differently. Open the keyboard’s Languages area, add Chinese, choose Pinyin, and select Traditional output or a Traditional Chinese region where offered.

Pinyin is a good choice if you already know Mandarin romanization. Zhuyin is often the more natural choice for people educated in Taiwan. Cangjie or Quick can be better when you know character shapes but not pronunciation.
