This Privacy Policy describes how TypeChinese ("TypeChinese," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the TypeChinese website, practice tools, account features, and related services.
TypeChinese is a web app for practicing Chinese typing. You can use core typing practice without creating an account. If you choose to create an account or sign in with a third-party provider, we collect and process additional information as described below.
When TypeChinese is configured to offer sign-in through Google, Facebook, or another single sign-on provider, the provider may show you the information it will share with TypeChinese before you authorize the login. TypeChinese uses the provider data we receive only for authentication, account creation, account linking, security, support, and related product functionality.
We do not sell SSO provider data, use it for third-party advertising, or use it to access provider services unrelated to TypeChinese. We do not intentionally request access to contacts, calendars, messages, posts, friends, or other provider data beyond the basic profile and email information needed for sign-in.
TypeChinese uses cookies and local storage for essential app behavior, including authentication, locale selection, preferred script, guest practice progress, and internal analytics markers. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling cookies or local storage may prevent some account or preference features from working correctly.
We use analytics services, including PostHog and Google Analytics, to understand how people use the app and to improve reliability and product quality. Analytics tools may collect events, page views, browser and device information, approximate location, referrer URLs, and interaction data. We configure analytics session recording to mask input fields where supported.
We share information with service providers that help us operate TypeChinese. These providers may include Clerk for authentication, Convex for database and backend services, Vercel for hosting and infrastructure, PostHog for product analytics, and Google Analytics for traffic analytics. These providers process information on our behalf or according to their own terms and privacy commitments.
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or similar legal process; to protect the rights, property, and safety of TypeChinese, users, or others; to investigate abuse or security issues; or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.
We do not sell personal information. We also do not use personal information for third-party advertising or targeted advertising.
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide TypeChinese, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve the service. Account profile information and practice history are generally kept while your account remains active.
If you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal information associated with your account unless we need to retain certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or legitimate business purposes. Some information may remain for a limited time in backups, logs, analytics records, or records that have been aggregated or de-identified.
To request deletion of your TypeChinese account or personal information, email privacy@typechinese.io from the email address associated with your account and include "Account deletion request" in the subject line. We may ask for information needed to verify that you control the account. More detailed instructions are available on our Data Deletion Instructions page.
For accounts created through Google, Facebook, or another SSO provider, deletion requests cover the provider-derived profile data that TypeChinese received, such as provider account identifiers, email address, name, and profile image, as well as associated TypeChinese account data where deletion is required and technically feasible.
We aim to respond to deletion requests within a reasonable period and generally within 30 days, unless a different period is required by applicable law or additional verification is needed.
TypeChinese is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including HTTPS, provider-managed authentication, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No internet service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
TypeChinese and its service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries where they operate.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
