Guide
Ready to try your Chinese keyboard?
Start with a short HSK 1 typing session. No signup is required.
Practice HSK 1 vocabularyCangjie is easier to sustain when you separate the learning stages: root keys first, decomposition second, common words third, and full-passage speed last. This plan takes 10-15 minutes a day for four weeks.
Before starting, read the complete Cangjie guide. Practice with Traditional HSK 1 vocabulary and Cangjie hints.
Learn roots in small keyboard groups. Recall the key before using the hint, then practice simple characters with clear structures. Keep hints visible; the goal is to connect shape, root, and key.
Checkpoint: locate at least 16 of 20 sampled basic roots quickly.
Practice left-right, top-bottom, and enclosing structures. Before looking at a hint, spend five seconds identifying the main structure. If you are still stuck, view the code, enter it, and immediately retry the character.
Checkpoint: begin the code correctly for most familiar characters without looking first.
Continue HSK vocabulary, but change the routine: use hints on the first attempt, consult them only when stuck on the second, and repeat common error patterns. Start one short sentence practice when words feel continuous.
Checkpoint: complete a short section at about 95% accuracy with fewer character-by-character pauses on the second attempt.
Use five minutes of vocabulary as a warm-up, then move to a Traditional newspaper passage. Alternate accuracy days with fluency days. When one character blocks you, check the hint, finish the sentence, and review it afterward.
Checkpoint: complete a short passage and identify which decomposition patterns still need focused work.
During the first two weeks, track hint use, long pauses, and accuracy. Start comparing CPM in weeks three and four. A higher score with many wrong codes is not durable progress.
After four weeks, keep a personal difficult-character list and continue with content that matches your real use. Compare weekly medians and consult the Chinese typing speed benchmark for context.
If full Cangjie feels too demanding for your needs, compare the shorter codes and heavier candidate selection of Quick/Sucheng.
